Diagnostic and Preventive Treatments
At Jersey Shore Dental Spa, we believe that your oral health is directly related to your overall health. For this reason, the foundation of our office is built on prevention. It is important for patients to receive regular hygiene and exam visits. This enables our dental team to detect problems early, prevent new conditions from arising, and customize a plan to maintain the overall health of your teeth.
What to expect at your regular hygiene visit:
- Digital Radiographs
More commonly known as x-rays, these are essential for the detection of decay, infection, bone loss, and pathology.
- Oral cancer screening
Oral cancer is very treatable when detected early. Our doctors will perform a thorough head and neck exam by checking the face, neck, lips, tongue, throat, tissues, and gums for any abnormalities.
- Gum disease evaluation
Periodontal disease impacts the majority of patients and is a major contributing factor to premature tooth loss. Our doctors will check the gums and bone around the teeth for any signs of periodontal disease.
- Examination of teeth
All tooth surfaces will be checked clinically and radiographically for decay. If left untreated decay can lead to pain, infection, and possible tooth loss. During this visit we will also check the integrity of previous dental work.
Just because a patient brushes their teeth twice a day and flosses doesn’t mean they can skip their regular cleanings. In addition, to removing stains, plaque, and calculus (tartar), routine cleanings are essential in preventing decay and gum disease. We recommend most patients return at least every six months although some patients may need to return more frequently depending on their periodontal health.
